LTG Link, a passenger transport company belonging to Lietuvos Geležinkeliai Group, launches direct Vilnius-Warsaw train service as soon as 11 December A long-awaited international train route will provide daily access to both the Polish capital and the country’s second largest city, Krakow. Trains on the new route will be operated in cooperation with Poland’s carrier PKP Intercity. Train tickets between Lithuania and Poland will be available for purchase from November 25 at 10 a.m. local time.

Trains will run between Lithuania and Poland on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Warsaw–Krakow route. LTG Link train will run from Vilniaus via Kaunas to Mockava, where passengers will change trains with the PKP Intercity service for onward travel into the Polish city of their choice. Tickets for this route will be available for purchase from 25 November on the company’s website www.LTGLink.lt, via the mobile app and at ticket offices, as well as by visiting the website of PKP Intercity www.intercity.pl.

“A passenger train connecting the capitals of Lithuania and Poland is the outcome of a memorandum signed by the Ministers of Transport and Communications of both the countries. We are happy that our mutually beneficial cooperation in rail transport is already producing tangible results. We hope that this route will serve as a prelude to the opening of the Rail Baltica railway line and surely in the future our neighbours will be reachable by train far more quickly and comfortably. This is particularly important in the context of increasing connectivity with the West and promoting rail travel as an environmentally friendly alternative,” says Loreta Maskaliovienė, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications.

“Today we can say with certainty that journeys to Warsaw are relaunched. As early as December, we will offer daily service to Poland. Comfortable and sustainable travel will be possible from Vilnius, Kaunas and Marijampolė, with access to these cities by other routes organised in Lithuania.  In the meantime, international journeys will be ensured with joint services. Warsaw and Krakow will be accessible by train in a sustainable and simple way – whether it be travelling for work or visiting Warsaw’s Copernicus Science Centre, the Christmas market in Krakow or other national attractions,” says Linas Baužys, CEO of LTG Link.

The train departs every day at 12:10 from Vilnius and at 13:20 from Kaunas. The train arrives at Warsaw Central Station at 20:13 and at Krakow Central Station at 23:39 local time. The train runs daily from Krakow to Vilnius at 04:01 and from Warsaw to Vilnius at 07:35. This train reaches Kaunas at 16:25 and Vilnius at 17:34 Lithuanian time.

The total train trip from Vilnius to Warsaw with a transfer will take about 9 hours. Passengers travelling to Warsaw will have to pay the standard fare of only €25, and the price of a ticket to Krakow will be €30. Reduced fares apply to children up to 12 years travelling together. Daily trains to Warsaw will also run via Bialystok to improve the connection to this Polish city as reopened in summer.

International travellers are required to have their IDs on them. This international route will allow to carry personal hand luggage or bicycles (with the carriage service purchased in advance), as well as to travel with pets having a health certificate from a veterinarian. The fixed ticket price per bicycle along the entire route is €10, a dog ticket costs €5.
